The Vancouver Ballet Society Library and Archives is a read-in library which offers all members of the public access to the extensive collection. From Broadway to ballet, biographies and more the Vancouver Ballet Society Library is a fabulous resource library.

The Library is open on most weekdays. Special appointments for the reading room can be made through the Vancouver Ballet Society office. Photocopies of material are permitted in accordance with copyright law and are available for $0.25/copy. The library is open to all members of the community with an interest in dance and dance history.

The focus of the VBS collection is their paper records (approximately twenty linear metres), including material related to dance workshops from the late 1950s to the present, as well as clippings, programmes, and posters. The VBS also has approximately fifteen linear metres of periodicals, fifteen metres of books, and two metres of photographs, as well as a few videos and a few costumes. Plans are underway to convert our videos to a more current format.

Donate to Digitize

Please consider donating to the Vancouver Ballet Society Library and Archives. The Society is currently in the process of creating an in-house and eventually an online catalogue for their collection. Your donation will help digitalize and permanently catalogue British Columbia’s most treasured dance records. Tax receipts for donations over $50 are always available.

Donations of dance related literature to the VBS Library are always welcome!
